At 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, National Park Service divers with Glen Canyon National Recreation Area recovered the body of Mr. Robert Prescott of St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Prescott was the last remaining victim of the April 25th boating accident on Lake Powell that claimed the lives of four persons.

Mr. Prescott was located using side scan sonar at a depth of 442 feet. His body was recovered by park divers and a remote operated vehicle.

The April 25 accident occurred near Padre Butte on Lake Powell. The incident began when Glen Canyon dispatch received a call of an overdue boating party of six. A National Park Service ranger soon arrived on scene and rescued two survivors who reported that their boat had swamped after taking on water in a wind storm. Two deceased persons also were recovered at that time.

The NPS immediately launched an intensive interagency search and rescue operation for the two remaining missing boaters. The body of the fifth victim was located and recovered on April 27. The search continued for Mr. Prescott with the involvement of the Kane and San Juan counties’ Sheriff’s Offices, Utah State Parks, and the Utah Department of Public Safety.

The NPS continues to search for the boat. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
