On the morning of August 23, 2011 the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Communications Center received a report of a missing person in Slick Rock Canyon. The individual, a Colorado woman, was on a houseboat trip with her husband who reported he had not seen her since the evening before. Park Rangers responded to the houseboat and initiated an investigation and search for the missing party. A short time later the missing woman was located in approximately eight feet of water in close proximity to the houseboat and was pronounced deceased.
Park staff, in conjunction with the park concessionaire, provided logistical support to the family. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigative agency with the National Park Service assisting in the investigation.
