Page, AZ – Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) Superintendent Stan Austin announced today that slash piles of tamarisk were scheduled to be burned this Thursday, March 5, in the Hidden Slough area of the Colorado River. The fires are expected to be of short duration (2-4 hours) with minimal smoke production.

There are about 30-35 large piles of tamarisk that were cut earlier this year as part of a project to help restore riparian habitat to the area. The Grand Canyon Wildlands Council is managing the project, which is part of a larger Twenty Year Management Plan for that section of the Colorado River.
