The National Park Service is partnering with Wounded Warrior Project to provide a Project Odyssey retreat at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Grand Canyon National Park, October 11-15, 2010. This partnership helps severely injured military members mend physically, mentally, and spiritually through the power of nature and recreation.

Project Odyssey, an outdoor rehabilitative retreat that combines adventure challenges with opportunities for peer support and group processing, was created to support warriors in their recovery from combat stress. During this retreat, warriors will have the opportunity to fish for bass in Lake Powell, hike along the north rim of the Grand Canyon and raft the Colorado River. Local sponsors for this trip include ARAMARK, Colorado River Discovery, and Lake Powell Outfitters.

Each warrior will also receive a National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Access Pass. This free lifetime pass is available to all U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities and can be obtained in person at any National Park Service site. For additional information, visit https://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm

Wounded Warrior is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. It serves to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
