Brian Sweatland Named Branch Chief at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

Page, AZ – Superintendent Stan Austin today announced that Brian Sweatland has been named Chief of Planning, Compliance, and External Affairs for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Sweatland will assume his new duties on April 12.

Sweatland, a 12-year veteran of federal service, currently serves as recreation planner for Glen Canyon. In his new position Sweatland will focus on external relations, public affairs, and environmental planning.

In making the announcement, Austin said, "Brian has a strong background in building partnerships and working with the public. I look forward to the focus he will bring to strengthening the relationship between our park and the community."

Other National Park Service positions held by Sweatland include special assistant in the Director’s office in Washington, D.C., and business planner in the regional office in Lakewood, Colorado. Sweatland also has worked for a U.S. Senator on Capitol Hill.

Sweatland relocated from Colorado to Page in August 2007 with his wife, Carrie, and two young children, Jacob and Annie.
