Spatial Odyssey Keynote Speakers 2003 - Dom Nessi ![]() Dom Nessi was selected as the National Park's Service's first Chief Information Officer in July, 2001. In taking on this new role, Mr. Nessi has assumed broad responsibilities for coordinating and managing information management and technology in NPS. Mr. Nessi also manages the National Information Systems Center located in Denver, CO and the National Information Technology Center located in Washington, DC. As CIO, Mr. Nessi is responsible for coordinating NPS compliance with all federal statutes and regulations related to information technology. Prior to working for NPS, Mr. Nessi was the first CIO at the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1999 - 2001 and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Native American Programs at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1988 - 1997. He taught information technology at Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO from 1982 - 1988. Over his career, Mr. Nessi has received numerous Secretarial and Presidential citations at both HUD and DOI. In 2000, Mr. Nessi received the rank of Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service. Mr. Nessi has a bachelor's degrees in Political Science from Northern Illinois University and Computer Science from Roosevelt University and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Colorado. He has achieved the following certifications: CISSP from ISC, the SANS GLSC, a Master's Certificate in Applied Project Management from Villanova University and the Project Management Institute's PMP certification.
