Spatial Odyssey 2003
December 1-5, 2003 Orlando, FL

The National Park Service presented Spatial Odyssey 2003 "Grounded in Technology," a service wide conference on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related technology. The conference provided NPS partners and NPS staff a great opportunity for training, setting directions for program development, policy and standards, and networking with others in your field.

GIS is now a commonly used tool. The NPS collects and uses millions of dollars of spatial data every year. At the conference you learned about upcoming systems and data management strategies to support better access and functional applications.

GOALS OF THE CONFERENCE

  1. Professional Development - Formal training sessions in GIS GPS are offered the entire week.
  2. Technical Information Exchange and Networking - Meet NPS partners and staff and learn about their endeavors.
  3. Spatial Program Meetings - NPS Fire, US Park Police, Law Enforcement, and other special interest groups coordinate GIS related activities.
  4. Technical review - Exhibitors and presenters show off the latest tools, data, imagery, and equipment available now and in the future.
  5. NPS GIS Business - Learn about E-Gov initiatives, contracts, standards, and other resources available to NPS staff for GIS/GPS implementations.
