BIOS:
Kerri Mich has been with the Intermountain GIS Support Center for five years. She holds a B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Minnesota, College of Natural Resources and an M.A. in geography from the University of New Mexico. She has taught GPS training classes for several years, and has published papers on her work with Petroglyph National Monument, using GPS, Access databases, and ArcView to document rock art.
Joel Cusick is a GIS Specialist with the Alaska Support Office. He received a B.S. in Biology from Michigan Technological University and recently acquired a Masters degree in Biology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Joel is the Alaska coordinator for Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and has taught classes in the use of Trimble mapping receivers, PLGR's and GPS data collection systems for fire management. He has extensive field experience including six years as a commercial fisherman, foreign fishery observer, and coastal survey work with the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service.
Tom Patterson has worked jointly for the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service since 1995 as an Area Fire Management Officer at Joshua Tree National Park. He began his career as a National Park Service Ranger in 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. Before transferring to California, Mr. Patterson was stationed at Richmond National Battlefield Park in Virginia and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Pennsylvania. Tom became interested in GIS in 1998 during the "F-Project", a BLM/NPS pilot program using Internet, GPS, GIS, digital video and other computer/communication technologies in the on-line reporting, mapping and tracking of wildland fires. He is a faculty member of the "Field Applications of GPS for Fire Management" training course that is taught at the National Interagency Fire Center
Sharon Shin, former GIS prisoner, exists in the confines of the National Biological Information Infrastructure National Metadata Program. Sharon manages metadata issues for the NBII which include training and data and metadata coordination. The US Geological Survey holds Sharon's sentence at the Center for Biological Informatics in Denver, Colorado.
