National Volunteer Week

The National Park Service's Volunteers In Parks Program is turning 50 years old in 2020!

Did you know that more than 279,000 volunteers collectively contributed more than 6.5 million hours of volunteer service at our national parks last year? We call these volunteers in the Volunteers In Parks Program our “VIPs." They work side-by-side with our National Park Service employees in parks and programs across the nation to help preserve our nation’s most precious natural, historical, recreational, and cultural treasures.

Each year, we celebrate National Volunteer Week to recognize the contributions of our volunteers. This year's celebration takes place April 19-25, 2020. The NPS is also celebrating Volunteer Day on April 19 as part of National Park Week and will kick off a year of storytelling in honor of the 50th anniversary of the VIP program.
