Please join General Grant National Memorial in commemorating the 133rd annual observance of the death of President Ulysses S. Grant on July 22nd at 12:30 pm.
The nation went into mourning for the loss of Ulysses S. Grant on the 23rd of July, 1885. Five hours after Grant’s death, New York City Mayor William Grace offered any city park to be the final resting place for Grant and his wife Julia. This began the creation of Grant’s Tomb.
A wreath-laying ceremony will begin inside the mausoleum at 12:30 p.m. followed by a lecture and discussion at the Visitor Center. All ages are encouraged to participate.
