"The Gallant" John Pelham Marker

The Pelham marker is one of ten monuments placed on the Fredericksburg area battlefields by James Power Smith. This marker commemorates Confederate artillery Major John Pelham, who on the morning of December 13th 1862 moved one cannon to the left end of the Union battle line. He and his artillerists held up the union advance toward Prospect Hill. Today the marker and two interpretive markers site at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 608.
