Albert Gallatin saw his major goal while Secretary of the Treasury to keep the federal budget balanced and erase the national debt.

The students will be divided into teams and participate in a group board game with the park ranger explaining and guiding the class. The game represents one federal fiscal year during Gallatin's term as secretary. The teams must navigate with their budgeted amount of money and avoid overspending, growing debt and possible bankruptcy. The team with the most money to be put towards the debt at the end of the game wins.

To prepare for this field trip please read the Background on Albert Gallatin and complete the Pre-visit lesson on Secretary of the Treasury.

This program is offered weekdays in the spring and the fall. One class of up to 32 students may participate at one time. The program lasts about 60 minutes. Please contact the park to check availability.
