On Monday, July 20, the Fort Smith National Historic Site staff will offer a free Dutch oven cooking demonstration that is open to the public. This living history demonstration will be presented at the visitor center at 10:00 a.m. The program will include information on the history of Dutch oven cooking and a demonstration. The public is invited to attend.
Dutch oven cooking dates back to the founding of Fort Smith when many of the soldier’s wives prepared meals for their families this way. “Dutch oven cooking is a dying art form that needs to be preserved. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a delicious part of history,” says Park Ranger, Keri Powers.
