Fort Larned NHS, Larned, KS – Grab your picnic basket and head to Fort Larned National Historic Site for one of the most unique events of the summer!The staff and volunteers at Fort Larned invite everyone to come and celebrate 100 years of the National Park Service on August 27 from 10:00 to 4:30.You will "Find Your Park" just six miles west of Larned on Highway 156.

The Centennial "Picnic in the Park" event will have something for everyone –music, history presentations, live animals, craft projects for kids, 4-H exhibits, special speakers, and cultural food samples.The fort's popular blacksmith will at the forge and there will be several other living history demonstrations. A kid-size Plains Indian lodge with artifacts will up all day. There is so much to offer families at this event.Artist Carson Norton will offer another art class for youth.

The Fort Larned Post Band will give a concert worthy of this celebration.It is comprised of high school musicians and directed by USD 495 music educator Katie Sperry.Come out and enjoy the day at the fort!
