If you're looking for something to do this July 4th weekend Fort Larned has plenty of activities for the whole family.Fort Larned staff and volunteers will bring the fort to life as soldiers and civilians, officers' wives and laundress.Come out and watch the blacksmith use fire to turn iron into everyday object, or hear the crack of rifles and the boom of the cannon.There will be crafts for kids and the Buffalo Game, a fun way to learn about the North American bison.Independence Day is a time to think about our history and what our country means to us.What better place to do that than historic Fort Larned?

Here is the schedule of events for all three days, July 2, 3 &4:

10:00 am –Anvil and Forge: the Blacksmith at Fort Larned

11:00 am –Frontier Army Weapons: Small Arms and Artillery Firing Demonstration

1:00 pm –The Buffalo Game: The North American Bison and the Plains Indians

2:00 pm –Buffalo Soldiers: An American Legend on the Western Frontier

3:00 pm –So You Want to Join the Army? The Life of a Frontier Soldier

4:30 pm –Flag Retreat: The Traditional Army Flag Lowering Ceremony

In celebration of the National Park Service Centennial, Fort Larned National Historic Site invites you to discover the meaning of national parks, how your park inspires you - both in personal connections and memorable experiences.Fort Larned National Historic Site is located six miles west of Larned on Kansas Highway 156.Open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., information on visiting is on the internet at www.nps.gov/fols, or by calling 620-285-6911.There is no admission fee.
