Somebody once described Army life as “months of boredom punctuated by moments of terror”. This is especially true for soldiers on garrison duty in the many frontier forts of the post-Civil War Indian Wars era. Soldiers could spend weeks, or even months, on incredibly boring garrison duty, only to quickly transition to the excitement and fear of the campaign trail. This year’s Candlelight Tour will highlight the contrast of garrison duty and the campaign trail for soldiers who were stationed at Fort Larned during its active period.
This year’s Candlelight Tour is on Saturday, October 8th starting at 7:30 pm with tours leaving every 15 minutes after that, for a total of 12 tours. The tours are limited to 20 people and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. You can make your reservation starting Monday, September 26th at 8:30 am, either in person at the Fort Larned Visitor center, or by calling 620-285-6911.
