Fort Donelson National Battlefield to be Closed for Upcoming Federal Holidays
Superintendent Steven McCoy is announcing that Fort Donelson National Battlefield, in Dover, Tennessee, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010, Christmas Day, December 25, 2010, and New Year’s Day, January 1, 2011.
For these three days, the visitor center will be closed, although the gates will remain open for those who wish to partake in a peaceful walk through the battlefield, view the eagles, or pay respects to our Veterans in the National Cemetery.
Other than these three Federal Holidays, the park’s visitor center is open daily from 8:00AM to 4:30 PM. Inside the visitor center is a powerful film that places the February, 1862, Battle of Fort Donelson into the proper timeline of the American Civil War. Also at the visitor center is a map of a self-guided driving tour that allows you to experience the many facets of this important battle.
Superintendent McCoy and the staff of Fort Donelson would like to take the opportunity to wish all a very safe and happy holiday season.
The main unit of Fort Donelson National Battlefield is located along Highway 79 in the community of Dover, Tennessee. For more information about the park, please call (931) 232-5706, or visit www.nps.gov/fodo.
