Local volunteers and scouts, the Friends of the Fort Donelson Campaign, the local Chamber of Commerce, and the West Tennessee District Boy Scouts will devote Saturday, September 26, 2009, to help Fort Donelson National Battlefield park staff with several park improvement projects.

Volunteers will clean exhibits, signs, and culverts, and assist with erosion control projects for the Civil War earthworks. The event will last from 9 am noon.

National Public Lands Day is the largest coast-to-coast, single day volunteer restoration program in America. Last year, over 120,000 volunteers helped to build bridges and trails, plant trees, and remove trash and invasive plants at 1,800 sites and in every state.

Interested groups or individuals should meet at the park’s visitor center at 8:30 amon the day of the event. Tools and equipment will be provided by the park staff. You can pre-register for the event by contacting Park Ranger Deborah Austin at 931-232-5706 x 103 or e-mail us.
