Dover, Tennessee---A special Artillery Exhibit and Civil War Artillery Presentations will highlight weekend festivities at Fort Donelson National Battlefield. The historic Dover Hotel will also be opened for visitation during Labor Day Weekend from noon – 4 pm.
John Walsh, local historian from Woodlawn, Tennessee, will lecture about Civil War Artillery at 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday, 30 August, and Sunday, 31 August 2008. The Artillery Exhibit includes original Civil War projectiles and artifacts. The exhibit will be displayed in the visitor center from 9 am – 4 pm, Saturday, and 9 am – 3 pm on Sunday.
FortDonelson National Battlefield, one of 391 national parks, commemorates the 1862 battle between U.S. forces led by General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate forces under Simon B. Buckner. The National Park Service preserves and protects the battlefield, surrender site, and national cemetery. The park offers Junior Ranger Programs free to children ages 5 – 12 years.
