DOVER, TN: Steven A. McCoy, Superintendent of Fort Donelson National Battlefield and National Cemetery, will be leaving the park in the middle of the month to assume the duty of Deputy Superintendent at Gulf Islands National Seashore, located in Florida and Mississippi. For the Tennessee native, the new job is a dream come true. He will assume this new duty on June 18.

Superintendent McCoy leaves behind a legacy of improvements at Fort Donelson that will benefit the resources and visitors of the park for years to come. His legacies will include the addition of the Fort Heiman unit of the park, in Calloway County, Kentucky, further restoration of the River Batteries at Fort Donelson, new interpretive exhibits throughout the park, multiple  new visitor amenities, this year's 150th Anniversary events, and a positive relationship with the Civil War Trust that will ultimately add over 300 acres of additional precious battle-related  land to the park boundary.

The public is invited to stop and say farewell to Superintendent McCoy at the Fort Donelson National Battlefield visitor center on Thursday, June 14, from 2:00 to 4:00PM. The park's visitor center is located along Highway 79 in Dover, Tennessee.

Superintendent McCoy wishes to thank the park's many partners, volunteers, friends, as well as the community for their constant support and efforts to make Fort Donelson a shining example of Civil War battlefield preservation and the National Park system.
