Farmington, PA – The five National Park Service sites in Western Pennsylvania will be celebrating the 97th birthday of the National Park Service on Sunday, August 25th by waiving entrance fees at Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Johnstown Flood National Memorial and Alleghany Portage National Historic Site. No entrance fees are charged at Friendship Hill NHS or Flight 93 National Memorial.

Each year on August 25, the National Park Service celebrates its birthday and everyone is invited to join the party! The National Park Service was created by an Act signed by President Woodrow Wilson on August 25, 1916. As we gear-up for the centennial celebration in 2016, the five National Parks of Western Pennsylvania will join with the more than 400 parks across the country to celebrate "America's Best Idea" with an Entrance "Fee Free Day" on Sunday, August 25!

"National parks belong to all Americans and offer something for everyone. I invite you to visit us and hike one of our trails and learn more about our nation's history," said Jeff Reinbold, Superintendent of the five Western Pennsylvania National Parks. Children especially will enjoy participating in the parks' Junior Ranger programs where they can work towards a badge by taking part in kid-friendly activities. At Flight 93 National Memorial visitors will be able to view "The Children's Discovery Table" which helps the youngest visitors to better understand the story of Flight 93 and the memorial that honors the passengers and crew through tangible objects.
