The National Park Service (NPS) announces the availability of the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Restore North and South Seawalls at Perry’s Victory to Safeguard Site Project for public and regulatory review. The harsh marine environment has deteriorated and undermined the two seawalls resulting in unsafe conditions in the Park. The seawalls are necessary to protect the cultural resources of the Park due to the proximity of the Memorial to the shorelines of Lake Erie and the relatively low elevation of the Park. https://www.nps.gov/pevi/learn/news/environmental-assessment-notice-of-public-availability-and-virtual-open-house-for-the-restore-north-and-south-seawalls-at-perry-s-victory-to-safeguard-site-project.htm

The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial (Park) for a project to repair and replace the north and south side concrete seawalls. Years of wave action, ice loading, and geological processes have deteriorated and undermined the two seawalls resulting in the creation of sink holes and other unsafe conditions within the Park. Both seawalls are also functionally necessary to protect the cultural resources of the Park due to the proximity of Lake Erie and the relatively low elevation of the Park. To enhance the visitor experience, the NPS also proposes to install interpretive elements along the north seawall. https://www.nps.gov/pevi/learn/news/nps-seeks-comments-on-project-to-restore-seawalls-at-perry-s-victory-and-international-peace-memorial.htm

Put-in-Bay, Ohio – Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial is seeking your input on its Park Accessibility Management Plan. The Memorial has prepared the plan to guide how the park can become universally accessible for park visitors and employees. Preparation of a plan for transitioning to full accessibility is mandated by regulations under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as they apply to the U.S. Department of the Interior. The purpose of a transition plan is to address the required physical, structural, and programmatic changes needed to make facilities, programs, services, and activities accessible to and usable by disabled people. The transition plan addresses physical and structural changes needed. An action plan should address the programmatic changes (modification of policies, auxiliary aids, etc.) as not all existing facilities must be made physically. https://www.nps.gov/pevi/learn/news/perry-s-victory-international-peace-memorial-requesting-input-on-accessibility-plan.htm

Senior citizens have several options in obtaining a $10 Lifetime Senior Pass before the fee increases to $80 on Monday, August 28, and one of them is to take a ferry boat ride to Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island. “We’ve witnessed a 40 percent increase in Senior pass sales the past two weeks,” said Superintendent Barbara Fearon, “and many seniors have told us they planned a visit to the island around getting their lifetime passes.” Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is located on a small resort island in lake Erie’s western basin. The island is accessible only by ferry boat, private watercraft, and small private and commercial aircraft. https://www.nps.gov/pevi/learn/news/seniors-have-options-for-purchasing-national-park-passes.htm

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) will host two open houses to discuss a possible fee increase in 2016. The park proposes an increase to the Memorial Column entrance fee. The current entrance fee of $3.00 has been in place since 1997. In 2007 PEVI postponed a scheduled fee increase to $5.00. This postponement was due to the memorial being closed for restoration. In order to stay on track with the fee schedule, PEVI proposes an increase in the amount of $7.00 per person for visitors 16 years and older. https://www.nps.gov/pevi/learn/news/proposes-fee-increase.htm
