The fire detection system will be replaced and a new fire suppression system will be installed throughout the complex. Consisting of two adjoining townhomes on North Seventh Street in the Spring Garden neighborhood, the site is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark. Construction will begin on July 8th and be completed by the fall of 2024. Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the city of Philadelphia’s guidelines on reopening museums, the National Park Service is reopening the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site and the Thaddaeus Kosciuszko National Memorial this weekend. When Independence National Historical Park reopened most buildings in 2020 and 2021, these two sites remained closed due to their limited space and exhibit layouts which prevented CDC Covid-19 recommendations from being followed.
