Martin Luther King, Jr. Virtual Birthhome Tour

Family Room/Study

After the evening chores were done, the family frequently played games and listened to the radio in the family room. In the 1930s, most people listened to music, news, and their favorite programs on the radio. Families eagerly awaited Amos and Andy, The Green Hornet, and The Shadow radio programs each week. They could also enjoy church services and gospel music on the radio. Many hours were spent playing Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, and Old Maid. M.L. was the family Monopoly champ, no one could beat Daddy King at Chinese Checkers, and Old Maid was Christine’s favorite game.
