Education

No degree required, however, experience doing masonry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and cleaning is essential.

You would be a great maintenance worker if you:
  • have knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, or other trade work
  • can make simple measurements using tape measure and square
  • enjoy using hand tools such as hammer, saw, brush and roller, screwdriver, wrench, electric drill/saw and other power tools
  • can learn to operate a pick-up truck and fork lift
  • can follow simple oral and written instructions
  • have good visual/ spatial skills as well as a love of working with one’s hands
What You Do

Maintenance workers perform simple and routine work by repairing and maintaining grounds, buildings, and utilities. They use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. Many jobs require problem solving, such as how to fix broken locks on buildings, or removing rocks from a rock fall on a roadway.
