Jensen, UT & Dinosaur, CO –Dinosaur National Monument Superintendent Mark Foust is pleased to announce that the Island Park and Rainbow Park roads will reopen to the public on Friday morning, April 14, 2017. The road had been closed due to severe winter storm damage.
With great work by the Uintah County Roads Department and the Dinosaur National Monument Roads Crew, temporary repairs were made to provide access to the Rainbow Park Campground and Boat Launch as well as McKee Springs Petroglyphs and the Ruple Ranch area.
Monument staff and engineers from the Federal Highway Administration are working on a plan to provide a longer term solution to minimize the potential for future washouts.
“We greatly appreciate the hours of work that staff from the Uintah County Roads Department provided to reopen the road in time for the busy season,” stated Superintendent Foust. “They have been an incredible partner in this project. By reopening the road, we are able to provide access to boaters to enjoy the Split Mountain Canyon section of the Green River.” Many local residents also enjoy spending time at Rainbow Park and the Ruple Ranch over spring weekends.”
