October 23, 2011: The final update
Quarry Visitor Center - On September 28, 2011, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the new Quarry Visitor Center.
The event, attended by Dinosaur National Monument staff, visitors, and local community members, began with a traditional Ute blessing by Northern Ute Tribal Elder Clifford Duncan. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar was the keynote speaker and, with the help of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Dinah Mites, performed the ribbon-cutting honors. Other speakers at the event included NPS Regional Director John Wessels and Dinosaur NM Superintendent Mary Risser.
The new visitor center features exhibits, a film, and a bookstore. It also serves as the access point to the Quarry Exhibit Hall.
The Quarry Visitor Center is open open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The visitor center is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
