Workshops at the ParkTeacher workshops which take place at Devils Tower National Monument offer teachers a chance to explore the resource through place-based learning. This starts with a general overview of the park's education program and education within the National Park Service. Through ice-breaker activities, we demonstrate easy ways to integrate Devils Tower National Monument into your classroom curriculum. We discuss expectations for ranger-led programs at the park, and explore areas visited during field trips such as the Tower Trail and prairie dog town.
A major focus of these workshops is to help teachers prepare for and understand ranger-led field trips at Devils Tower National Monument. Plan to spend several hours outdoors, and bring water, lunch, snacks, etc.
Workshops at Your SchoolEducation rangers often visit local schools for Ranger in the Classroom programs to benefit students. However, staff is available to work directly with teachers to inform them about education opportunities from Devils Tower National Monument. This can be scheduled for a professional development (PD) day, or during a faculty meeting. We discuss education in the National Park Service, and the steps for requesting education programs from Devils Tower National Monument. Staff will also discuss ways that the park can continue to support teachers through materials, lesson plans, and resource knowledge.
