Denali Discovery Pack

Families can check out a free Discovery Pack while visiting Denali. The packs, which are available for check-out at the Denali Visitor Center, contain an array of fun and educational activities for children. Kids can:

  • Watch for wildlife with the binoculars and identify animals and plants using the colorful guides
  • Become a scientist while performing experiments with a water testing kit
  • Be inspired by the beauty of Denali and write or draw about it in their own Denali Discovery Journal
  • Make a cast of a wolf print to take home
  • And more
Discovery Packs include:
  • Activity Guide - suggested activities using various items from the pack
  • Hand lens
  • Magnifying box with lid
  • Thermometer
  • Binoculars
  • Writing and coloring tools: pencil, crayon set, oil pastel set, colored pencil set, pencil sharpener
  • Modeling clay
  • Wolf track mold and casting compound
  • Water specimen jar with lid
  • pH Paper test strips
  • Books: Look to the North and Up On Denali
  • Colorful guides for: animal tracks, common wildlife, Alaska trees and flowers
  • Denali Discovery Journal
  • Fact sheet on grizzly bears or glaciers

Borrowing Instructions

Stop by the Denali Visitor Center while we're open to check out a pack. There is no cost to borrow the pack, though we will require some personal information in case we need to contact you about replacing any items, if more than usual wear and tear occurs while you have the pack.

Packs can be returned to the Denali Visitor Center during business hours (8am-6pm). If you need to return your pack after hours you may do so at the Backcountry Information Center, by dropping the pack in a locked metal container that is also used for overnight drop-offs of bear-resistant food containers.
