Brecksville, Ohio– The National Park Service has reopened most of the sections of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The trail was closed on December 21 due to anticipated flooding. The Towpath Trail is now open from Lock 39 Trailhead in Independence to Station Road Bridge Trailhead in Brecksville and from Lock 29 Trailhead in Peninsula to Botzum Trailhead in Akron.
The remaining closed section is from Station Road Bridge Trailhead in Brecksville to Lock 29 Trailhead in Peninsula, due to standing water on sections of the trail. NPS staff will continue to assess conditions and will make repairs as necessary to reopen the trail.
Please respect all park closures for the safety of visitors, resource, and park staff. Please do not drive through moving water or bypass road closures or make contact with moving water due potential exposure to chemicals or sewage.
