Brecksville, Ohio – Starting Saturday, June 5 until Saturday, September 4, Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP); Ohio & Erie Canalway; Cleveland Metroparks; Stark Parks; Tuscarawas County Park Department; and Metro Parks, Serving Summit County will once again present a summer safety campaign to reduce accidents and improve trail courtesy on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
The theme Safe is Sound highlights the need for cyclists to give an audible signal when passing. At designated safety stops on the Towpath Trail, more than 7,000 visitors will receive friendly reminders of trail rules, while picking up bike bells, maps, water bottles, stickers, and more. New this year will be whistles for hikers.
The following messages are being encouraged for users of all ages while hiking, walking, or cycling on the Towpath Trail:
• Wear a Helmet
• Be Bright, Stay to the Right
• Give Audible Warning Before Passing
• Protect Your Pet, 8 ft leash (it’s 6 ft in CVNP!)
• Take Breaks to the Side of the Trail
• Slow Down
• Single File
• Do not Block the Trail
• All Yield to Horses
CVNP encompasses 33,000 acres along the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio.
