Brecksville, Ohio – Park Ranger Pamela Machuga received the National Master Frontline Interpreter award on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) annual conference in Reno, Nevada. She was nominated for the award by Ray Novotny, Naturalist at Ford Nature Center, Mill Creek MetroParks, in Canfield, Ohio.
"We are very proud of Pam and this prestigious award from the National Association for Interpretation. Pam continually strives for interpretive excellence in her public programming. Her programs connect park visitors with stories of the valley and through her work Pam inspires people to love their national park," said Paul Stoehr, Acting Superintendent of Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Through creative and diverse cultural programs, interpretive projects, volunteer supervision, partnerships, and coaching, spanning more than two decades, Pamela Machuga has distinguished herself at Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP). Pamela has created programming for all ages such as the "Deer’s Ears" pre-school program, the Junior Ranger Program, and Canal Camps. All of her programs highlight the incredible natural, cultural and historical features of the CVNP. Her "Student Explorers" program is presented to over 8,000 students annually and highlights the role of the Underground Railroad in the region. Pamela has authored numerous site bulletins, participated in the creation of the Cuyahoga Valley Audio Tour (a NAI Media Award Winner), serves on the Regional Lead Coaching Team for the National Park Service, and has been honored as the Midwest recipient of the Freeman Tilden Award.
Pam Machuga is a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
