Brecksville, Ohio - Effective today, Monday, May 6, 2013, Canal Visitor Center in Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) will close for construction to prepare for new interpretive exhibits. It will reopen in early 2014 with in-depth exhibits exploring the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal.
The project was awarded $1 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Scenic Byways Program with matching funds provided by the National Park Service. The new exhibits will explore local, regional, and national history, showing how the Ohio & Erie Canal transformed trade, travel, and daily life in the Cuyahoga Valley and beyond.
Visit CVNP's other visitor centers where park staff and volunteers will introduce you to the attractions in the park, help you plan your visit, and answer your questions. You can also obtain park and trail maps, Junior Ranger publications, train schedules, and brochures highlighting the cultural and natural history of the Cuyahoga Valley.
Boston Store Visitor Center is located at 1550 Boston Mills Road, east of Riverview Road, Peninsula 44264. Exhibits tell the story of canal boat building in the Cuyahoga Valley. This visitor center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., September through May: and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., June through August.
Peninsula Depot Visitor Center is located at 1630 Mill Street, off Akron Peninsula Road, north of SR 303, Peninsula 44264. Find information and orientation to CVNP and the Ohio & Erie Canalway. Saturdays and Sundays, March to May, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June through August.
