Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park
PENINSULA, Ohio (Tuesday, August 28, 2012) - For the past 12 years, the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park has hosted a Clambake and Auction event to support the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC) and its scholarship fund. The need for those funds has increased over time and this year, approximately 30% of the children who attend the CVEEC's four-day, three-night residential program will receive scholarship support. For some kids, this program is their first real exposure to nature.
"Many of the children we serve don't have opportunities to encounter the natural world first hand - attending the residential program is their first experience spending extended time in nature," said Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park CEO Deb Yandala. "Hearing an owl call at night, seeing a beaver in a pond, finding a salamander under a rock-these are magical experiences for children. Those that enjoy our clambake help make these experiences possible."
The 2012 Clambake and Auction will be held Sunday, September 23, at the CVEEC campus in Peninsula. The evening consists of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, full clam and lobster bake, live musical entertainment, live auction and a raffle. Money raised at the event offsets the cost needed per child to attend the CVEEC residential program.
"The Clambake provides an opportunity for people who care about the future of parks and our environment to invest in children's experiences," said Yandala. "It gives our supporters a chance to see Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center, a place that is usually closed to the public. It is a fun event, in a beautiful setting, with great food. People mingle with friends, learn about our environmental education programs and provide financial support to make environmental education programs possible."
Tickets are now available and registration ends September 12. People interested in attending or sponsoring the event can call 330-657-2909 ext. 222, email email@example.com, or visit www.conservancyforcvnp.org for more information.
