A BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which teams of volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible. In 2016, the National Park Service Centennial, BioBlitz goes national and Cuyahoga Valley National Park is happy to be the signature event in the Midwest Region.

To get an overview of what a BioBlitz is watch this video.

In combination with the BioBlitz, a two-day Biodiversity Festival featuring exhibitors from the region, music, food, crafts, and hands-on science has been planned. See details below.

CVNP has engaged the scientific community and a large crew of logistics volunteers. Now we need your help and that of the our community to assist with the fun and educational task of surveying CVNP's species!

Follow along in real time with the National Parks BioBlitz on May 20 and 21

Now Open! Survey Participant Registration!
Students, families, clubs, and individuals wishing to assist with the BioBlitz in Cuyahoga Valley will be asked to register for a variety of species surveys.

To register, follow the steps below to sign up at the Survey Participant Registration Link:
  1. Survey opportunities will appear initially as three options. Although it appears all events are on Friday, May 20, that is not the case and it is the site location that interests you that should determine which of the three links you select.
  2. Once you select one of the three location divisions, click on the green "Register" button for a complete list of opportunities for that area.
  3. Select a time, location, and species survey that interests you.
  4. Complete the registration information.
See you at the BioBlitz! Join us at the Biodiversity Festival before or after your survey session.

The Role of Scientists
The scientist registration portal is now closed
CVNP has recruited dozens of scientists, field biologists, and naturalists to participate in Cuyahoga Valley's BioBlitz! We are excited to have their help in documenting the park's biodiversity and in sharing their knowledge of and enthusiasm for nature with others.

Meet the Scientists

Now that the scientists are identified, we are working to designate inventory locations. We will begin recruiting participants in early April through the Participant Registration Portal. That link will be added below once it is active..

Scientists or subject matter experts who have questions should contact Andrew Bishop at andrew_bishop@nps.gov or 216-310-2661.
