This web feature is taken from the "From Asbestos to Zinc," An Exhibit of Roofing for Historic Buildings, prepared for the March 17, 1999 - March 19, 1999 conference "The Roofing Conference and Exposition for Historic Buildings." The conference was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The exhibit was assembled to foster a public understanding and appreciation of roofing in historic buildings--its appearance, composition, manufacture, application, and evolution. It was organized by John Sandor, architectural historian for Technical Preservation Services of the National Center for Cultural Resources, National Park Service, with assistance from members of the exhibit committee:
