Due to the lapse in federal appropriations, the Steel Visitor Center and all government facilities and services at the park are closed.
Highway 62 remains open through the park. The road to park headquarters is currently open and is being plowed periodically. Conditions are subject to change quickly at Crater Lake, so closures are possible during this period.
The road from park headquarters to Rim Village is not being plowed. As of the morning of December 22nd, the road to Rim Village is open, but it will be closed as soon as driving conditions become unsafe due to snow accumulation.
All federal facilities in the park are closed, including the restrooms. The Rim Village Cafe & Gifts, which is run by a private company, will be open from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM as long as the road to Rim Village remains open. There are restrooms inside the gift shop.
When the road to Rim Village closes, however, the café & gift shop also will close. As a result, it is possible that it will not be open as of Sunday, December 23rd, due to predicted heavy snowfall. Feel free to call the Rim Cafe & Gifts to check. They can be reached at 541-594-2255.
If you decide to visit the park during the government shutdown, please use caution. Park personnel are not currently available to provide guidance, assistance, or emergency response. Entering and visiting the park is at your own risk.
Please note that this page is current as of December 22, 2018 only. There will be no further updates until the government is back in operation.
