Reptiles of Louisiana are plentiful but most are usually not harmful. However some are quite dangerous to both humans and other animals.

*Alligators are very dangerous especially during the mating season and when protecting a nest of eggs.
Never feed a gator.

Some of the most common poisonous snakes include:

*rattlesnake
*water moccasin or cottonmouth
*copperhead or highland moccasin
*coral snake
