The Southern Campaign of the American Revolution was crucial to gaining our nation’s independence. Cowpens National Battlefield invites you to celebrate independence with family programs on Saturday, July 7, from 9:45 am – 2:30 pm, when the park hosts its annual Celebration of Freedom. Although there will be no fireworks, the park will highlight patriotic activities during the day.
The event features, 18th century weapons firing demonstration, guided battlefield walks, and hands-on children’s activities. The park movie, Cowpens: A Battle Remembered will show on the hour from 9:00 – 4:00 in the visitor center museum.
The day’s special activities will begin at 9:45 with an 18th century weapons firing demonstration. Additional firing demonstrations will be at 11:15, 12:45, and 2:15.
At 10:15, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors are encouraged to participate and should let a ranger know by 10:00 on the day of the event if they would like to read a short section.
Park staff will lead a 1-hour ranger-guided battlefield walk along the 1.25 mile interpretive trail at 10:45 and 1:30.
Children of all ages can meet under the tent behind the visitor center to do some fun and educational hands-on activities.
All special activities will take place outside, and visitors should dress for the weather.
