Centennial of the National Park Service at Colonial National Historical Park

Special Events at Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield Will Celebrate the National Park Service 100th Anniversary

The National Park Service invites visitors of all ages to join in the celebration of its 100th birthday throughout the month of August. With special events across the country, and free admission to all 412 national parks fromAugust 25 through August 28, the NPS is encouraging everyone to #FindYourPark/#EncuentraTuParque for the centennial.

As part of this celebration, Colonial National Historical Park will be offering family-friendly activities throughout the day onAugust 25."We like to think that we look pretty good for 100" shared Acting Superintendent Jennifer Madello. "Our Centennial Committee has worked very hard this year with so many events and activities to commemorate this milestone!" We hope all park visitors, supporters and advocates will join us to celebrate America's beginnings, from an English colony in 1607 to an independent nation in 1781!"Admission to the park that day is free!

Cake will be available to the public beginning at 10:00 and then again at 1:00 pm in the lobby of the visitor centers. A Ranger Cut-Out will also be available for photos all day. Law Enforcement cruisers and maintenance equipment will be on static display while personnel representing several divisions of the park will also be available. Visitor Centers will be on extended hours until 6:00 p.m.Programs that will be offered are as follows:

Historic Jamestowne

* Ranger tours will be at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 4:00 pm.

*Jerome Bridges as "Sam Robinson" to begin at 10:00 am.,12:30, and 3:00 pm

*Representatives from the John Smith Water Trail and Friends of Green Spring: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

*17th Century music performances at the waterfront benches:10:00,11:00 am,1:00,2:00, 3:00 pm, and 5:00 pm

*Preservation Virginia Archaeology Tours begin at Tercentenary monument: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm

Yorktown Battlefield

*Musket Demonstrations will commence at 10:45 am and 2:45 pm

*Fifes and Drums of Yorktown performances:1:00,2:00,3:00, 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm

*Young Soldiers in kit performance at 12:15 pm

*Historic Moore, Nelson Houses, Cemetery Lodge, and Poor Potter open 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

*A Town Tour presented will begin at 10:15 am

*Battlefield walking tours are scheduled for 9:45 and 11:45 am,1:45 and 2:15 pm
