Description

Curriculum-based programs are available at the park visitor center in the Ventura Harbor. There is no charge for these programs, but reservations are required and should be made well in advance, especially for programs in April, May, and June.

Park Education Programs (PDF)

Options for visits include: 

Self-Guided Visit

  • Welcome and orientation by a park ranger
  • View park film (25 minutes; most appropriate for children six years old and over)
  • Self-directed tour of the visitor center exhibits, ocean tower and observation deck, and native plant garden 
  • Length of visit: about one hour
  • Group sizes: Minimum group size is 12-15 (exceptions may be made for special education groups); maximum group size is 90. Adult chaperones are required—one per 8 to 10 students. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for student supervision, including discipline and student conduct. 

Education Program Visit

  • Welcome and orientation by a park ranger
  • View park film (25 minutes; most appropriate for children six years old and over)
  • Interactive, curriculum-based presentation given by a park ranger on intertidal life (30 minutes)
  • Self-directed tour of the visitor center exhibits, ocean tower and observation deck, and native plant garden (30 minutes)
  • Length of visit: One and one-half hours to two hours
  • Group sizes: Minimum group size is 12-15 (exceptions may be made for special education groups); maximum group size is 90. Adult chaperones are required—one per 8 to 10 students. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for student supervision, including discipline and student conduct. 

Channel Islands Live Programs

  • If your group is coming on a Wednesday, your group may be able to participate in an interactive Live Dive or Live Hike program broadcast to the visitor center from Anacapa Island. Please enquire about availability when making reservations. See Distance Learning for more information on these programs.

Fees

  • There is no charge for programs. However, donations are accepted in the education program donation box in the park visitor center. Or checks made out to "National Park Service" may be mailed to: Education Coordinator, Channel Islands National Park, 1901 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura, CA 93001
