Each April, the National Park Service invites park visitors to celebrate special places during National Park Week. This year’s celebration will take place April 16-24 throughout the National Park system. Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma, has long been a refuge for visitors seeking wellness. Mineral and freshwater springs, as well as an abundance of outdoor activities, have attracted visitors to the park for over a century. Park staff would like to encourage visitors to find their own refuge at the recreation area during National Park Week and all year long. Swimming, boating, camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing are just a few of the healthy recreational opportunities that exist in Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

The National Park Service also promotes healthy ecosystems. Recent eastern redcedar thinning and prescribed fires are part of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area’s efforts to maintain a balanced ecosystem and restore native grasslands. To ensure the health of the park’s water resources, park staff monitors water quality and quantity in the park to ensure that future visitors will have an opportunity to recreate in the future.

Relax, reflect, and refuel at the park. For more information about the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and activities available throughout the year, visit or call the Travertine Nature Center, 580 622-7234.
