Remembering Cedar Creek - 154th Anniversary

Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park, Belle Grove Plantation, and
the Town of Middletown will host the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek programs
from Friday, October 19 – Sunday, October 21.

The National Park Service Visitor Contact Station at 7712 Main Street, Middletown, Virginia will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. There is no fee for this facility.

Belle Grove will be open Saturday, October 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, October 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for living history, house tours, and ranger programs. Admission to the grounds and manor house at Belle Grove is $5 for those 13 and older. Admission will be free for those 12 and younger as well as Belle Grove and National Trust for Historic Preservation members with a current membership card. Admission will be sold at the gate; cash and credit cards accepted. Programs included in the fee have an *.

The Belle Grove Manor House will be open for touring. The 1797 home of the Hite family served as Union General Philip Sheridan’s Headquarters during the Battle of Cedar Creek and survived being at the epicenter of the battle. There will be living historians throughout the building discussing civilian life during the Civil War. The Ordnance Detachment of the Civil War Dance Foundation will also have an exhibit weapons and replica flags.
On the evening of Saturday, October 20, the Town of Middletown and Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park would like to invite you on a special Evening Battle of Cedar Creek Commemorative Program. Please join us for a 90 minute walking tour through historic Middletown to learn about how the Civil War impacted the daily lives of Middletown residents. Bonus stops to include the rarely open St. Thomas Church and the Hoffman House. After the tour concludes, the NPS and town invite you to participate in the lighting of the luminaries to honor the fallen soldiers from 154 years ago at the Battle of Cedar Creek.
