National Park Service Seeks Volunteers
...
MIDDLETOWN, VA ----- Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park is now seeking motivated and qualified volunteers to assist the park in visitor services needs and other special projects. The park, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary last month, will open a new Visitor Contact Station in Middletown this spring and will need assistance staffing that facility.

"After years of planning, the National Park Service is becoming more operational at Cedar Creek and Belle Grove," stated Park Ranger Eric Campbell. "This National Park Service operated facility is tangible evidence that the park is moving forward to providing orientation and visitor services to the public." Volunteers will be needed in order staff and operate the Contact Station.

Although the exact date of the Contact Station's opening, and its hours of operation, are still undetermined, the Park Service is now seeking volunteers in order to properly orientate and train them during the winter. Prior experience is not required, although potential volunteers will be asked to work a minimum of four hours a week. Those interested will be asked to fill out an application, which can be found on the park website (www.nps.gov/cebe/) or by contacting our Volunteer Coordinator, shannon_moeck@nps.gov.

Once applications are received, there will be a review period, applicants will be called for an interview in early February. If accepted into the Volunteer-In-the-Parks (VIP) program, training will begin in early March, and volunteers will start as soon as the Contact Station opens. For more information or questions call (540) 869-3051.
The Visitor Contact Station will contain various exhibits and displays on the history of the Shenandoah Valley, the Civil War's impact on the region and the Battle of Cedar Creek, along with orientation and information on the park and the significant resources and facilities operated by its Key Partners.

Created on December 19, 2002, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park encompasses approximately 3,700 acres across three counties and includes the key partner sites of Belle Grove Plantation (owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and managed by Belle Grove, Inc.), Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation, Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and a developing Shenandoah County Park. The partner sites continue to be owned and operated independently.

The park is embedded within the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District, a National Heritage Area.

The National Park Service Volunteers-In-Parks Program (VIP) was authorized by Public Law 91-357 enacted in 1970.
