In December, Carlsbad Caverns National Park will offer visitors an opportunity to experience the cavern and its history in six special guided tours. Dressed in historic costumes, park staff will guide visitors on a lantern-lit tour of the front half of the “Big Room.” This annual tradition gives visitors the opportunity to “meet” some of the men and women who were connected to this national park. The tour will feature a re-creation of the historic “Rock of Ages Ceremony,” which was regularly conducted in the Big Room from the late 1920s until the early 1940s.
Dates: December 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, and 23
Time: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Fees: $10 for adults / $5 for children under age 16 (children under age 5 are not permitted)
Reservations are required and limited to 25 people for each tour. Tickets go on sale November 26 and may be purchased by phone at 575-236-1375 or in person at the park’s visitor center ticket desk. The ticket desk is open daily from 8 am to 3:15 pm, except Thanksgiving Day.
