On September 12 the emergency stabilization and erosion control project will begin at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. This will lead to traffic delays on the 1,300 feet of highway 494/119 that borders park property. This project should have a minimal impact on park visitors and neighbors. The park will maintain its usual hours of operation during the project, which will be completed later in the fall.
Cronin Construction Company from Cantonment , Florida was awarded the bid for this project. Cronin will also be employing area sub-contractors.
Once the project is complete the lake bank and above roadway will be safe from erosion, drainage will be improved, and non-native vegetation will be replaced with native wetland species. Additionally the project will help restore the natural view that is characteristic of the area, and preserve the cultural landscape in Cane River Creole National Historical Park.
