A Call to Action: Success Stories
The National Park Service turned 100 on August 25, 2016. To us, it wasn't about cakes and candles — it was about preparing the NPS to take on the challenges of our second century. A Call to Action was our blueprint to get us there. Every partner, program, and park played a dynamic role in realizing that vision. The stories below are examples of that work, and a final report on the centennial summarizes the success of this collaboration.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Hiking to Health at Kennesaw Mountain NBP
The park partnered with Cobb Senior Services, with the YMCA, and with the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club for an Active Trails grant entitled “Hiking to Health”. This program enabled local senior citizens to experience Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park through hikes on park trails and in outdoor fitness and yoga-based programs. A total of 210 senior citizens were served through this program. Read more

Centennial Junior Ranger Day at Kennesaw Mountain NBP
The park’s Centennial Junior Ranger Day targeted underserved audiences and offered the participants various activities to help them learn more about the park and its resources. A total of 80 youth participated in the event. Read more

Kennesaw Mountain's Ticket to Ride Program
Nine title I schools (939 students) were served through a 3-part program which included a pre-site orientation visit to the school, a fall fieldtrip to the park focusing on Civil War history, and a spring fieldtrip to the park focusing on the CCC camp and the New Deal. Read more
