Celebrate at Alcove Spring

From upland prairie with expansive views of the Big Blue River Valley to deep deciduous forests, Alcove Spring Park encompasses a wide diversity of natural habitats that few people have fully explored, much less photographed. As part of the year-long celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Oregon Trail and the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, you are invited join photo hikes with guided tours of the most scenic areas of the park and simultaneously learn about the park and basic photographic principles such as composition, depth of field and exposure. Tom Parker, a professional photographer from Blue Rapids, will guide each of the hikes.

The hikes are free of charge. Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes or boots and clothing suitable for the outdoors such as long pants. Insect repellant will be necessary as you explore the deep recesses of the park. Encounters with snakes, spiders, ticks and poison ivy are probable. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet in the parking lot at the designated times. The park is located on East River Road about six miles south of Marysville or eight miles north of Blue Rapids.
