School Field Trips to Ocracoke Visitor Center

The Ocracoke Visitor Center has exhibits and a bookstore. The Ocracoke Lighthouse is the second oldest operating lighthouse in the nation.

The lighthouse is not open for climbing, but ranger-led talks at the lighthouse may be available in early fall and late spring.

Ocracoke Island is a remote destination only accessible by ferry boat from the north or south.

The ferry from Hatteras lasts approximately 40 minutes, while ferries from Swan Quarter and Cedar Island take 2hrs 15 min.
Most school visits to Ocracoke last 2+ hours.

To schedule a school group program, call the Ocracoke Visitor Center at (252) 473-2111 x9701. There is no admission fee.
