Cabrillo National Monument is excited to announce improvements being made in the popular “tidepool” area of the park. To facilitate visitor safety and allow for construction, a portion of this area will be closed to the general public beginning April 12, 2016. Construction is scheduled to last through the end of June. This project is funded through park entrance fees and will upgrade a section of the coastal trail and parking lot to ADA standards.

Tidepool parking lot #1 (closest to the water,) the public restrooms and a section of the coastal trail are affected by this temporary closure. The tidepools can still be reached through parking lot #2 and #3, however, these lots will fill quickly. Cell phone coverage is very limited in this area. If you plan to drop off guests, plan logistics carefully.

The public restroom facility at the tidepools will remain closed during construction. The next nearest facilities are located at the Cabrillo NM Visitor Center. The tidepools are open from 9 am – 4:30 pm daily and the entire park closes at 5pm.

A unit of the National Park System, Cabrillo National Monument is located on Point Loma at the south end of Catalina Boulevard. For additional information call 619-557-5450 or TTY 619-222- 8211, or visit our web site at
